Donacloney Primary School is being advised by the Department of Education and the Education Authority on the issue of school closure. The latest information states that, 'based upon expert medical and scientific advice, 'the closure of schools is unlikely to be beneficial at this time and indeed might be counterproductive'. Advice and information to schools will continue to be updated as the situation evolves.
It does appear that school closure is inevitable. Time will be set aside on the School Development Day on Monday 16 March 2020, for teachers to prepare information packs for parents to help ensure continuity of children's learning.
In the meantime, Donacloney Primary School will continue to follow the guidance from the Public Health Agency (PHA) regarding good hygiene practices and to be vigilant regarding the COVID-19 symptoms: new dry persistent cough and fever.
The health and wellbeing of our staff, pupils and the wider community is our highest priority and, whilst everyone may not agree on closure or non-closure of schools, this is a time for people to support one another, to try to protect the most vulnerable and to act wisely and responsibly.
