KEY WORKERS

There is NO REQUIREMENT for children of Key Workers to be minded at schools.

This facility should only be used when all other options have been exhausted.

Dear Parents

I realise that many people have gone to great lengths to find childcare for this difficult time and I am very grateful.  I am also grateful to those who are in the frontline of battle against this terrible disease and appreciate that they cannot be at home with their children.  The responsibility of keeping children and staff safe at school and reducing the risk of them carrying the virus home to other family members is enormous.  I would implore parents to help keep the number of children being cared for in school as low as possible.

The more children in school, the greater the risk to school staff and the children we are caring for.   School is NOT the safest place for your child to be.  It will be incredibly hard to maintain social distancing between children.

I would urge you, therefore to seriously consider the following:

  • Only parents who are critical to the Covid-19 response should use the school for childminding, and even then only as a last resort.
  • The number of pupils coming into schools must be kept to a minimum.
  • Bringing people together, in school, creates an opportunity for the virus to spread.
  • If children can stay safely at home, they should.
  • If child minders are willing to take children this should be the first option.
  • If a parent is at home, children should not be in school.
  • Every effort must be made to arrange for child care other than school.

School MUST ONLY BE USED AS A LAST RESORT.

There is much advice in the media about how to slow down the spread of the virus and hopefully reduce the strain on hospitals.  We need to follow the advice. We need to look after ourselves and each other.  Thank you for all your support for the school, our children and staff. May you all stay safe.

    Yours faithfully

    L Nesbitt
